Salento

Otranto, a small seaside town rich in history especially for the Turkish invasion in 1480, when 800 Catholic citizens of Otranto were beheaded after refusing to convert to Islam and the whole town was destroyed. These victims were canonized by Pope Francis on 12th May 2013. 

To visit: the Cathedral, the church of St. Pietro, the main Aragon's castle, the church of "Santa Maria dei Martiri", the medieval centre, the lakes of Alimini.
